**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today due to travel schedule**
RIGHT NOW: Showers are almost impossible to find on radar, and temperatures are generally in the low 90s at 2:00. Birmingham and Tuscaloosa are at 91, while Anniston has 90. The sky is mostly sunny.
HOT WEEKEND: Not much change in our thinking for the weekend. The hottest weather so far this year, with highs in the mid 90s tomorrow and Sunday. With high humidity values, the heat index values will hover around 100 degrees at times on both days, and afternoon showers and storms will be isolated. The chance of any one spot getting wet tomorrow and Sunday is only about one in eight. We do note the 12Z NAM tries to be a little more aggressive with the upper ridge weakening Sunday, along an increase in the number of afternoon storms, but for now that run is an outlier.
NEXT WEEK: Still looks like heat levels will slowly back down next week, with a slow increase in the coverage of afternoon storms. Still, the week will be hot and muggy with highs generally in the 89 to 92 degree range. The 12Z GFS hints that the best coverage of showers and storms will be Wednesday and Thursday, but it is very hard to define the placement and coverage of airmass thunderstorms on summer days far in advance since that is usually the result of mesoscale processes, something you won’t see on the synoptic scale models.
TROPICS: All remains quiet across the Atlantic basin and tropical storm formation is not expected through the weekend.
