An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

THE HEAT IS ON: Both the NAM and the GFS are printing a high of 97 degrees for Birmingham today… considering the model has been running a degree or so too hot this week, so we figure 96 will be about right. However, upper 90s are possible for Northeast Alabama as the big heat bubble over the eastern U.S. noses into Alabama. Warm air aloft should keep most communities dry; like recent days any showers should be few and far between.

TOMORROW AND THE WEEKEND: We will bring in the risk of a late afternoon shower or storm tomorrow as the ridge weakens a bit and a surface front approaches from the north. That front will stall out somewhere over North Alabama Saturday, so scattered showers and storms are possible both Saturday and Sunday with a mixture of sun and clouds. Heat levels will back off as well, with highs around 90 both days.

NEXT WEEK: For now we are looking at fairly routine summer weather for much of next week, with partly sunny days, some risk of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm, and highs generally in the low 90s.

TD2 ON THE BOARD: The second tropical depression of the season in the Southwest Gulf of Mexico has some potential to become Tropical Storm Bonnie before landfall this evening near Brownsville, Texas. Heavy rain is the main threat; the rest of the Atlantic basin is relatively quiet. Remember, the core of the hurricane season won’t come until August and September.
