The weather continues to act like a stuck record on a turntable as each day just about a carbon copy of the previous day. Showers did develop yesterday especially across western and southern sections of Alabama. I got a shower close by, but ended up with only 2 hundredths of an inch of rain. But that doubled my rainfall for the month.

There is no big feature in our weather pattern to bring about a sweeping change to the conditions. So the heat and daily shower possibilities just keep rolling along. Now there is a minor feature that might provide a bit more shower coverage – which in turn might keep temperatures a few degrees lower thanks to clouds. The upper ridge does weaken on Friday and a trough moving through the westerlies will drop into that weakness. This is still not a major trough, but the subtle change could mean more showers and greater rainfall coverage for us on Friday and Saturday. But by Sunday that trough is by us, so we return to daily showers driven primarily by daytime heating.

Tuesday and Wednesday the upper ridge builds in with a vengeance. If the strength of the upper ridge is correct on the GFS model, then our temperatures are likely to soar into the lower 100s with highs 100 to 104 and heat indices running over 110. This could spell some dangerous heat conditions for us. That’s still a ways out, but it will bear watching.

Slight risk of severe storms along the front moving through the Great Lakes region and the Central Plains. The severe weather threat shifts to New York on Day 2. Tropics are still quiet.

Voodoo peeking shows very little change to the overall pattern with a continuation of a strong upper ridge for the eastern half of the country.
