Rain and thunderstorms are widespread at 6:35 pm, and this may be another night when they continue well after sunset, instead of the usual dying off once the sun goes down.

SPC mesoscale analysis shows CAPE ranging from 1500 J/kg in NE AL to 3000 in west AL, with negative CAPE, layer of energy holding back convection of 25-50 J/kg. Looking at the lower levels of the latest UAH MPR sounding (2337 UTC, 6:47 pm CDT), the small area of negative energy shows up (the dashed line indicating a convective air parcel is a little cooler than the red line indicating the background atmosphere). But, this area is small, and with dewpoints at the surface and temperatures aloft looking very similar to this time last night, expect at least scattered storms to continue well into the evening. A nice all-night rain sure would make me happy!
