* 25 of the 62 days in July and August had measurable rain at Birmingham Airport

* 14 days in July had measurable rain, an average of rain almost every-other-day

* 8 days in a row in August had measurable rain (the last 8days)

* 4.64 of rain occurred during those eight days

* 4.88 inches in all of August made the month 1.40 inches wetter than normal!

* 0.05 is all the rain we have received in September. That was on the first day so today (so far) is the 11th day in a row with no rain

* 59 was the high in Milwaukee yesterday. It was a wet blustery day. They may have frost by the end of the week. Thanks to Randy Coleman for that reminder. He lives west of Milwaukee but I think (???) that he is an Alabama native. Randy also passes along a Frost Advisory from NWS/Duluth warning that the growing season will come to an end tonight over the north country (places like NW Wisconsin and parts of Minnesota as temperatures drop into the upper 20s tonight.

* 3.07 inches of rain at the DFW Airport in the last 24 hours and 3.80 at Love Field in Dallas, so it is the same old story–a very wet year

* 44 was the low temperature this morning at Dalhart, in the NW part of the Texas Panhandle, NW of Amarillo, where US Highways 87, 54 and 385 come together. I really like Dalhart and it is not because I filled my gas tank with 22 cents per gallon gasoline one day in the 1960s. We stayed overnight there several times while traveling and it is a real friendly place full of hard-working people. Mostly ranchers. It is also a place where a sudden “Blue-norther” can send the temperature plunging from the 70s to freezing in just a few hours and the wind will blow your hat off even if you have it anchored with Velcro!

* 0 is how many times I have been to Hot Coffee, Miss., and Waterloo, Ala. Both are high on my list. I want to enjoy a cup of coffee in Hot Coffee.

* 25 cents is how much I paid for a quart of motor oil at a very isolated gas station and roadside cafe on the plains of SE New Mexico back in the 1960s. 35 cents is how much I paid for a glass of water with my meal at the same place. So, water was about twice as expensive as oil.

* 6.56 inches is the rain deficit for Eufaula so far in 2007. They are in better shape than most other Alabama locations.

* 24 inches is the shortfall at Tuscaloosa Airport. This is based on numbers from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Alabama Field Office, Montgomery, in their weekly report released yesterday.

* 89 percent of Alabama still has very short or short topsoil moisture. That is a little worse than a week ago when it was 85 percent

* 74 percent of Alabama pasture and range land is in poor or very poor condition.

One day, all of this will pass and weeds will be growing so fast that we will want it to stop raining. Life is that way and life goes on…
