Showers were increasing over North and West Alabama early this afternoon, mainly in two areas:
1. Across the Tennessee Valley and Extreme NW. Heaviest showers were over Franklin and West Marion County and from about Guntersville to Fort Pyne in the NE
2. In West Central Alabama, mainly Greene, Hale and Tuscaloosa County. These are smaller showers and not quite as heavy so far. But they are growing.
Not a great deal of lightning so far but there will be some thunderstorms involved as the afternoon goes on.
Main trigger is an approaching cold front. Just before 1 pm, the front and wind-shift line had passed Nashville and Tupelo and was entering NW Alabama. It was only 68 degrees at noon at Dyersburg, in NW Tennessee.
