My attention to weather focuses primarily on the Southeast US with a focus on any weather system that might impact the weather where I live such as the tropical Atlantic. But there are sometimes worldwide events which capture my attention. This was the case this morning when I was perusing some news item and noted that a super typhoon was approaching the Philippines. This is clear around to the other side of the world, but it is interesting. Here is a satellite image I found on the Joint Typhoon Warning Center web site. This is one impressive storm.
The storm this morning had wind to 155 knots with gusts to 190 knots. Wave heights were projected to be 37 feet. It is expected to weaken slightly dropping to around 100 knots tomorrow morning with gusts to 115 knots.

The track as seen below will take this super storm right over the northern portion of the Philippines Monday.

It appears likely that much of the Philippines will be taking a battering from this storm.
