A number of reports of very beneficial rain late this afternoon. Here are a few early amounts and it is still raining at some of these places:
0.74 at Clay (NE Jefferson County)
0.67 South Trussville (Bill Murray report)
0.27 Simmons Mountain, Springville
At 4:30, a number of showers and thunderstorms and showers were across North/Central Alabama. The more numerous and strongest ones extended from just west and north of the city of Tuscaloosa northeastward to the Walker/Jefferson County line. The whole shebang was moving generally eastward. Other heavy showers or storms were over Central Marengo County in West Alabama just south of Linden. Still others over SW Clay County, west and SW of Ashland. The heavier storms that were over Jefferson County have moved into West St. Clair County, but it was still raining heavily in the Trussville/Argo area of NE Jefferson County.
We can thank, among other things, an approaching cold front for this increase in showers and thunderstorms. Late this afternoon, it was in the 70s over most of Tennessee, Arkansas and North Mississippi and in North Alabama where most of the showers were. However, the 4:00 p.m. temperature was 94 at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery.
