Widespread heavy rain over NW Alabama this morning.

At 8 o’clock, you could draw a line from about Vernon to Fayette and Cullman and areas north of that line all the way to the Tennessee border getting a good old-fashioned drenching. (Since it has been so long, maybe we should call this a “new-fashioned” drenching.

Places like Florence, Russellville, Athens, Decatur, Double Springs, Hamilton getting the heavy rain.

NWS/Birmingham issued a Significant Weather Alert fior Pickens and Lamar County because of this. Heavy rain may have wind gusts to 30.

We have a report from Tom Waller in downtown Columbus, Miss., that they have received 3.50 inches of rain overnight.

Further south, a line of heavy rain approaching the Birmingham area from the west.

Busy, busy day. As we often mention this 3340 weather blog will be busier than US 280 at 5 pm, so please scroll down lot today. Often 4 or 5 posts down you will still find current and valid information.

May I also mention this is a 12 cup day (coffee)
