Tornado warnings are in effect for parts of Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, Walker, and Blount Counties. However, the storms of concern at this time will not affect downtown TCL nor downtown BHM. The areas of concern are northern TCL county, all of Walker County, extreme northern Jefferson (Morris, Warrior, Kimberly etc.), and southern Blount (Oneonta, etc.).
So, if you are hearing sirens in Hoover, Trussville, downtown Birmingham, Irondale, or Bessemer, you are not in the tornado warning right now. OPINION: With the new NWS polygon warnings, the technology is available for sectorized siren activation, but so far, many large counties have not purchased this, unnecessarily alarming hundreds of thousands of people.
