CORRECTED MOODY RAIN TOTAL AND ADDED OTHERS

Have you noticed the sky this afternoon.

Cumulus clouds floating through the clear air, with a blue sky backdrop

Distant thunderheads far to the east and southeast–a reminder of what we went through today. Great visibility, you can see for many miles.

Nothing like nature. It is far better than any painting.

This is so typical of a tropical atmosphere.

Now looks like few, if any showers later tonight as our much advertised “cold” front comes through. High school games here in Central Alabama should be played without rain. Bet the fields are plenty wet, however.

Still trying to sort out storm total rain amounts. Will have more information after 7 o’clock, but here are some samples:

2.60 Black Creek (NE Etowah County)**
4.50 Garden City with 3.62 since midnight
2.36 Moody (corrected)
3.65 Hoover/Rocky Ridge
2.80 Jasper*
3.50 Beeswax Creek of Lay Lake
2.73 Greystone Farms
2.13 Helena (Brian Peters)
2.19 Clay/Pinson Womack Road
3.20 Brilliant including 2.10 between 6 and 10 am
2.45 Mount Olive
1.51 Concord/Hueytown line
1.01 Alabaster (Navajo Pines)
3.30 Tri-county area where Jefferson/Blount/St. Clair County join
4.77 Inverness
2.26 NE Trussville
2.00 Birmingham Airport (approxmate)

* John Jay reports that the 2.80 in Jasper is the first time since last April that one inch or more was recorded

** Vic Bell, 3340 Skywatcher for Black Creek and also a volunteer fireman, reports that two chicken houses were destroyed around noon today in the New Union Community of West Etowah County

At 5 pm, the entire NW half of Alabama was free of showers. Still a chance of some active storms this evening over far SE Alabama and South Georgia.
