Be and scroll down for rain reports from J.B… and a look at that amazing low over the Upper Midwest earlier in the week. We played “The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald” on WeatherBrains this week as we were talking about weather related songs. What an amazing storm.

GETTING CHILLY: The coolest air so far this season rolls into Alabama tonight; most communities will be close to 40 degrees by early tomorrow. The daytime tomorrow will bring a cloudless sky, a cool breeze, and a high only in the mid 60s.

GLORIOUS WEEKEND: Saturday morning will be the coldest, with lows in the 37 to 41 degree range and a chance of scattered frost. The colder valleys and protected areas will have a crack at reaching the freezing mark. Our sky will continue to be cobalt blue Saturday and Sunday with highs in the low to mid 70s.

RACE WEEKEND: The weekend weather does not get much better than this! A sunny sky means cool mornings and pleasantly warm afternoons for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The high on Friday will likely be in the 60s with a fresh north breeze, followed by low 70s Saturday and Sunday with a light breeze from the east on Saturday; the wind becomes more southerly with a slight warm-up on Sunday. Mornings will be pretty chilly, with upper 30s early Saturday, and low 40s Sunday. Monday also looks dry for the trip back home.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Auburn will be on the road Saturday; they travel to Oxford to take on the Ole Miss Rebels (5:00 p.m. kickoff). The sky will be clear, with temperatures falling from near 70 at kickoff into the mid 50s by the final whistle. The Magic City Classic is Saturday at Birmingham’s Legion Field (the annual clash between Alabama State and Alabama A&M)… (2:30 p.m. kickoff) the weather will be nearly perfect with a sunny sky and a kickoff temperature around 72 degrees, falling into the low 60s by the end of the game. UAB travels to Hattiesburg to take on Southern Miss (11:00 a.m. kickoff), where the sky will be sunny with temperatures in the low to mid 70s during the game.

NEXT WEEK: Monday stays dry, but we have a little model madness creeping in for the rest of the week. The 12Z GFS now has the upper low west of Alabama, which would mean wet and unsettled weather Tuesday through Thursday, which is a contrast to the 00Z run which had most of the rain east of Alabama. See the Weather Xtreme video for more details on long range ideas, which includes a potential severe weather event around 11/11.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
