Our summer-like weather is expected to stick around for much of the next week, but there is some sign that we could see slightly cooler weather by the end of next week. However, rain chances still appear bleek with little likelihood that we’ll see any significant rain. This is pretty typical since October ranks as the driest month climatologically in Central Alabama.

Lots of sun today with plenty of moisture so clouds from time-to-time but the absence of a trigger to set off any showers. An isolated shower might occur but I think it will be dry and warm today and Sunday.

The ridge over the eastern half of the country is forecast to change this coming week. The strong trough kicks out from the west coast today and Sunday and forces the ridge back to the west. The trough then takes up residence over the Mid-Atlantic coast. This should deliver a northwesterly flow aloft by the end of the week and promises some cooler but certainly not cold weather.

Tropics are nervous but nothing much to hang your hat on at the moment. A mass of clouds in the Northwest Caribbean is drifting slowly west or southwest and some slow development is possible. Clouds north-northwest of Puerto Rico are moving slowly northward and conditions are favorable for slow development. A third area of disturbed weather about 700 miles east of the Leeward Islands has increased a bit overnight, but conditions are not favorable for development.

The longer range GFS is forecasting the east coast trough to stay put for much of the week of October 15th so temperatures should remain cool. But there is still no sign of any signficant rain event.

Busy day – off to the Women’s Show for the late morning and then back to the station to fill in for Ashley Brand. Thank you for tuning into the Weather Xtreme Video. I hope you have a great weekend. God bless.
