That wide band of showers that has been slowly moving SE across Alabama today triggered a stronger line of showers and some thunderstorms out ahead. At 1:30, that line of showers and storms extended from South Cleburne and Randolph Counties near the Georgia border southward and SW to near Evergreen in extreme South Alabama. The line was moving toward the east and SE.
The National Weather Service in Birmingham issued a special weather statement for Randolph County until 2:00 p.m. It was based on a strong thunderstorm 10 miles west of Wedowee moving east at 10. Wind gusts to about 30 mph, small hail and heavy downpours are possible as it moves east toward Wedowee.
At 1:27 p.m., the 33/40 skywatcher reported lots of lightning and thunder in Heflin. There was a downpour of rain in part of Heflin.
There is still another band of showers (the original one) further westward. They extend from Calhoun County all the way southwestward into Clarke County. The intensity of those has diminished considerably.
Up in NW Alabama, a few showers were developing between Double Springs, Hartselle and Decatur moving SE.
