For the first time in quite some time, no formal warnings in Alabama. The Severe Thunderstorm Warning for a number of West Alabama counties expired at 5:15 and was not extended. This line of intense thunderstorms produced some high winds in the Tuscaloosa area but so far we do not have reports of damage.
So here is how it looks now:
* Tornado Watch till 10 am for numerous counties in North, Central, and parts of SW Alabama. All of the Birmingham Metro included.
* Flash Flood Watch until noon for a number of North and NW Alabama Counties. This includes the Birmingham Area
* The ABC 33/40 Skywatcher at Bear Creek in Northeast Marion County in Northwest Alabama reports a whopping 3.34 inches of rain since midnight.
* We do not know of any significant wind damage so far. Often those reports are delayed.
As soon as the line of intense thunderstorms moves through, the Tornado Watch will probably be cleared for those areas.
The bow-echo that moved through the Tuscaloosa area smoothed out as it approached Birmingham but those thunderstorms are still very strong and a new warning could be issued at any time.
WELL, WELL!
As soon as I wrote the above, NWS Birmingham issued a new Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 6:15 for parts of six counties…Text of that warning follows shortly
