I was not working on the blog tonight…I was asleep until I heard a crash outside…sounded like a tree or large limb going down here in Trussville. Can’t see anything close by. After looking at radar, I see a bow echo in Shelby and Chilton counties in the squall line that extends from near Leeds to just west of Prattville. These bow echoes enhance damaging wind threat. A tornado warning has been issued for parts of Chilton, Coosa, Shelby, and St. Clair counties, as areas along the squall line have spun up.
Wind profiles from radar indicate winds near 50 knots just 3,000 feet off the ground also, so it doesn’t take much of a storm to bring that air down to the ground. With the drought, many trees are not healthy, making it more likely for them to come down. Please keep an eye on the weather.
We also, of course, have a tornado watch in effect, so keep the weather radios on standby if you go to bed.
