The City of Chicago is under siege tonight from our massive winter storm.
Traffic is stopped deadstill on Lakeshore Drive as covered by WGN on their 9 p.m. news. People are having to abandon their cars. On top of the 12-20 inches of snow that is expected across the area, the 1/4 to 1/2 miles of nearshore ice along the lakefront will be battered by 25 foot waves from the 50-60 mph winds. Lakeshore Drive is expected to be overwashed by the waves. The NWS Chicago has issued a lakeshore flood warning.
Blizzard warnings are in effect for the Chicago area.
In addition, lightning detection networks are showing extensive lightning across northern Illinois tonight from this dynamic storm.
