Yup, we’re getting another great Fall day in Central Alabama – second verse to what we saw yesterday – with only a slight modification in temperature which probably makes this verse even better than the verse we saw yesterday. I expect to see the afternoon highs reach about 70 or so across Central Alabama with plenty of sun to make it feel great. And this great weather is forecast to extend well into and through the upcoming week with almost no possibility of rain.
The large surface high centered over the Central Plains today will move eastward through Wednesday which also promises a dry, relatively mild Halloween for Central Alabama and all of our trick or treaters. A frontal system comes across the area on Thursday, but this system will be starved for moisture so other than a slight reinforcement of the cool air and a few clouds we should see very little impact from that system.
An upper level ridge builds across the Southeast on Friday which also promises dry weather for Friday night football. But that ridge will be short-lived as another trough comes across the Rockies. That next trough should bring another front into the Southeast around Sunday, but again there seems to be a lot of question as to whether or not there will be any moisture with it to work with.
The tropics have a new depression as of yesterday, but it sure doesn’t look like much on the latest satellite images today. That depression is forecast to move northwest but with the area of low pressure over the land masses of Hispaniola and Cuba and upper level wind just not very good for development, there is little chance this will develop into something more than a tropical storm. An upper trough is forecast to turn the storm northeastward Thursday, but those interactions can be tricky so we’ll be keeping an eye on the future course.
Further into voodoo land the GFS has changed dramatically. No longer is the GFS forecasting a deep east coast trough like it was yesterday. But the GFS is indicating the possibility of rain events around November 6 and 7 and again around the 11th. But it is voodoo land.
Don’t forget that ABC 3340 and the 2008 International Auto Show will be hosting Storm Alert Xtreme at the BJCC on November 10th from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. This is a great opportunity to learn more about severe weather spotting, so if you have an interest in the weather, make plans to attend. We hope to see you there.
Heading home from Athens, AL, today after attending the first annual Spirit of Athens Storytelling Festival. What a great event they have kicked off here. And if you have an interest in storytelling, mark your calendar for next year – last weekend of October.
Thanks for tuning into the Blog and the Weather Xtreme Video. I hope that you have a great Sunday. God bless.
