The latest edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme Video is available in the player below and on iTunes.
Some sort of problem with the Brightcove site this morning, so have reverted to the older Flash video.
While computer issues abounded this morning, the weather is going to be close to perfect. A cool start to the day with temperatures in the 30s and 40s this morning across Central Alabama. But with the dry air in place, temperatures should rise rapidly this morning and I expect to see highs in the 70s this afternoon.
Monday should start the work week off in fine fashion, but then we begin dealing with a series of short waves which could bring a chance for rain to the area at midweek. Looks like the timing of the rain chances will be later Wednesday and perhaps into the early morning hours of Thursday. We dry out again Thursday, but another round of showers is possible late Friday and Saturday. This could spell the end to the long string of great weather for weekends. But we need the rain so I’m pretty sure most people won’t grumble too much.
With those rain chances on Saturday also comes a cool down on Sunday with the development of the long wave trough position over the Eastern US. The 540-line dips down to Knoxville, so we aren’t talking major cold but perhaps temperatures back into the 30s for lows. This is verging on voodoo land so I’m not trying to be too specific.
Tropics are quiet with only a small disturbed area in the Southwest Caribbean which is not expected to develop as it moves into Central America.
Long range GFS run this morning shows a chance for rain on the day before Thanksgiving with a generally cool pattern as the long wave trough seems parked over the Eastern US. Next serious chance of rain on this run seems to come very late in the cycle around November 27th – but that is so deep into voodoo land who knows.
I had a wonderful time at the BJCC yesterday with our Storm Alert Xtreme. Special thanks to the Birmingham Automobile Dealers Association and Brett McBrayer for sponsoring the location and allowing all of the attendees to get into the 2008 International Auto Show. Special thanks, too, to Jim Stefkovich, Meteorologist-in-Charge of the Birmingham NWS office, and Tim Coleman, research meteorologist at UAH, for sharing information with the crowd. There were over 200 folks in attendance – these are dedicated weather geeks to give up the better part of a Saturday.
I’ll be at the BJCC again this afternoon staffing our booth. We have a mini-studio set up there with a green wall so you can try your hand at being a meteorologist and we’ll send you home with the tape. Hope you get a chance to come by. James Spann will be back tomorrow morning with the next Weather Xtreme Video. God bless.
