The line of thunderstorms has now moved over into NE Alabama and is somewhat weaker. Still considerable lightning.
At 3:20 am, the line of storms extended from St. Clair County northeastward through Etowah and Cherokee County into NW Georgia. Some of the strongest storms and the heaviest rain was over Cherokee County moving toward Rome, Georgia.
Birmingham and Tuscaloosa missed most of the rain as the line of storms shortened on the south end. Many parts of North Alabama received well over 1/2 inch. Later this morning, we will post a list of rain amounts.
The cold front has slowed its SE progress somewhat. It was 51 in Muscle Shoals at 3 am but still a balmy 68 in both Tuscaloosa and Birmingham.
This will be our last update until a little later this morning unless the storms intensify again.
Up all night, headed for a bit of shuteye.
Coffee starts tasting bad after an allnight vigil.
Thanks to the 3340 Skywatchers. A number of them hung in there for much of the night,
