Severe thunderstorms have really blown up over the past hour in western Alabama. To this point, we have had no “confirmed” reports of tornadoes; however, we are in a TORNADO WATCH until 11 PM for most of Central Alabama and midnight for Cullman County and the Tennessee Valley counties.

Here are some of the reports that have come in from western Alabama so far:

*Numerous trees down in Aliceville (Pickens County)
*Power and telephone lines down in Fayette, part of the roof was blown off of American Power Supply (via Twitter)
*Kris Montgomery in Coker reports approximate wind gust of 65 MPH in Coker with numerous trees & power lines down
*Ashley Evans in Coker reports large gum and oak trees down in Coker; a shed was heavily damaged
*A transformer exploded in north Tuscaloosa; winds estimated by TPD around 55 to 65 MPH on McFarland Blvd.
*A tree fell on a house on Sipsey Valley Road in Tuscaloosa County.

Severe thunderstorm wind gusts on days like this may be just as strong as a small tornado; warnings are currently in effect for Tuscaloosa, Bibb, Greene, and Hale Counties.
