An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below and on iTunes.

It is downright cold out there as the temperatures have fallen 33 degrees since about noon yesterday. And with cold air advection occurring today with that strong northwest wind, I do not expect the temperatures to climb much. Clouds linger back to the Mississippi River, so some breaks in the clouds are possible by late afternoon but I don’t hold out hope for much sun today. And highs might reach the lower 40s but many locations will probably stay in the upper 30s.

Dry weather is expected through mid-week. Monday morning will be quite cold with lows in the mid 20s but some of those typically colder locations are likely to see 18 or 19 for lows. A gradual warming trend starts on Monday afternoon with highs getting up into the mid and upper 50s.

The next storm system that promises some rain comes in and goes out on Thursday. We’re in a fast flow and the net result will be short-lived rain events. The Thursday event could tap Gulf moisture a bit better than the one yesterday, so perhaps one inch of rain could occur.

We dry out again on Friday, but the GFS is developing another high amplitude trough over the Rockies on Saturday. This should result in another big storm across the Central US with another cold front blasting through Central Alabama late Saturday and early Sunday. The strength of the trough promises another shot at very cold air with the 540 thickness contour reaching nearly to Mobile by Sunday afternoon.

Venturing into voodoo land, the model has changed the solution much as we expected. No sign of a Gulf low now but the progressive pattern does keep our weather active with rain chances on the 26th and 29th. I certainly would have no objections if December ended the year on a wet note. But it is voodoo as we see from yesterday.

Thanks for tuning in to the Weather Xtreme Video. James will be back tomorrow morning with the next installment on the never ending sage of weather in Central Alabama. And I’ll be filling in for Jason Simpson tomorrow morning on Good Morning Alabama. Hope you can join me then. Have a great Sunday and God bless.
