I’ve thought before…I wonder what it’s like down at the river on a day like this? (A day with high temps near 40 and a Lake Wind Advisory in effect). Today, my wife and I decided to find out, and also decorate a little for our own Christmas on the River (at Bluff Creek).
Wow. It was cold. But, even on the coldest day I’ve been outdoors at the river for in many years, and with the leaves gone, I still think Bankhead Lake (Warrior River) is one of the most beautiful lakes in the eastern United States.
Having heat in the cabin for the first time in about 20 years is nice too!
Interestingly, driving into the 10 knot wind around 4 pm at 20 knots (30 knots total), with a temperature of 40, means a windchill on the 2001 chart of 28 degrees. On the old chart, it would have been 12. When we left for the car, we drove about the same speed around 6 pm, but it was 34 degrees with no head wind. Wind chill 21/8.
