Rain continues to spread east across Alabama at midday. The leading edge of the lighter rain just before noon had reached Huntsville, Cullman, Birmingham, Marion and Camden. The precipitation was spreading toward the east and NE.

Over in West/Central Alabama, moderate to heavy rain was falling across Sumter and Greene Counties. Further south a line of intense thunderstorms was approaching SW Alabama from SE Mississippi.

There have been a number of reports of severe weather across extreme Southern Mississippi this morning. Probably one of the more significant ones was 5 miles west of Laurel in Jones County at 10:23 a.m. The EMA reported several mobile homes damaged or destroyed. Some people were trapped in one of the mobile homes. Several homes were unroofed and numerous trees were uprooted.

At least 2 injuries were reported earlier from those storms. The Tornado Watch continues until 4:00 this afternoon for extreme SW Alabama and SE Mississippi. That may need to be extended eastward.

We are hoping that the intense thunderstorms closer to the coast do not cut of some of our moisture inflow and cut down on the Birmingham area rain amount.

Earlier Jackson, in Central Mississippi, had reported 1.54 inches of rain.
