It is still well to the west of Alabama but some of those storms will move across the Birmingham area tonight. We think the severe weather threat will lessen greatly by that time but we can’t rule out a few strong storms.

NOON POSITION REPORT
Shortly after 12-noon, CST, the line of thunderstorms extended from East Texas across Extreme NW Louisiana through South and East Arkansas, across the Missouri Bootheel (that’s the SE corner of Missouri) and into Central Illinois. The Arkansas storms were some of the strongest.

Some say that this has been the third worst January tornado outbreak since reliable records started in the USA.

Probably to most unusual was the north part of the outbreak late yesterday in SE Wisconsin. The NWS has classed the tornado near New Munster, Wisconsin (Kenosha County as an EF3.

At one time two tornados were reported on the ground at the same time 3 miles NW of Kenosha Airport.

So far, three fatalities–2 in SW Missouri late yesterday and one in Pope County, Arkansas this morning.
