A line of intense thunderstorms continues eastward across North and West Mississippi tonight. Some of the most intense ones were over the north/central part of that state.
Tornado Watches continue for a large part of North and Central Mississippi. These watches extend over to the Alabama border, but so far, no part of Alabama is included in a watch.
The NWS has issued Severe Thunderstorm Warnings for a number of Mississippi counties.
We are watching closely a bow in the line. Some of those stronger thunderstorms will reach some West Alabama counties such as Marion, Lamar and Pickens by around 8 o’clock tonight.
We still think that by the time this line of storms reaches Central Alabama, including the greater Birmingham area, that they will have weakened enough that we are optimistic to escape a significant severe weather event.
However, as always, we never take thunderstorms for granted and we will be here all night watching the storms and providing blog updates.
The only precipitation in Alabama at 5:40 p.m. was some showers over the extreme NW corner of the state.
