SUN, HEAT, AND STORMS: Looks like another day with the classic mid-summer mix. Morning sunshine, highs in the 90s, and developing thunderstorms by afternoon. Like yesterday, where the storms develop they will pack a punch with lots of lighting, and potential for a few wet microbursts, or small areas of high wind that might be enough to knock down trees and power lines.
While the storms will begin to die down once the sun sets, a few could linger into the late night hours, so keep an eye on radar as we approach fireworks time tonight. Hopefully the storms won’t interfere with too many fireworks celebrations around our state.
REST OF THE WEEK: The weather won’t change much. The core of the heat ridge will be centered west of Alabama, and as the ridge erodes here, each day we will be dealing with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms. Along with the rising coverage of storms, heat levels will drop with highs mostly in the low 90s. While the best chance of showers and storms will come during the afternoon and evening hours, we can’t rule out a late night or morning storm as well.
TROPICAL WEATHER: The Atlantic basin remains quiet and tropical storm formation is not expected through mid-week.
AT THE BEACH: Very standard summer weather continues along the Northwest Florida and Alabama coasts this week. About 6 to 8 hours of sunshine each day, with a few scattered showers and storms around. The chance of any one spot getting wet at the beach each day is about one in three, and highs will remain in the low 90s. The sea water temperature at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab early this morning was 86 degrees.
