Rain was still falling over a good part of Alabama tonight. Temperatures had edged upward a few degrees.

At 9 pm, it was mainly between 33 and 35 over the north ranging up to 41 in Montgomery. It is a raw night over the higher terrain of NE Alabama. It was 34 degrees in Albertville with mixed precipitation. An east wind was gusting to 21 mph giving a wind chill of 24.

At 9:40 pm, Skywatcher Wally Coker reported 32.5 degrees at Clay with light drizzle and very light snow. There was about one-half inch of snow on grassy areas. This site in NE Jefferson County is in an elevated area off Deerfoot Parkway. I am only about three air miles from Wally and I did not have any snow accumulation but I am considerably lower in elevation.

Elevation is the key.

After midnight, the precipitation is expected to be almost all rain except at and above 1,500 feet elevation over Extreme NE Alabama.

The low pressure area causing all out troubles was still centered over the North Gulf of Mexico tonight some 100 miles south of the Mobile-Biloxi area. That, along with a high along the North Carolina-Virginia Coast was providing a steady east wind flow across much of our area.

Some good rain amounts down south toiday:

1.21 inches at Mobile Regional Airport
1.31 at Brookley Field, Mobile
1.05 Evergreen
