Thanks to a good looking break in the hold on us by the upper ridge, we should see improved chances for showers and thunderstorms on Friday. For today, it looks like another fairly typical summer day with afternoon and early evening showers as afternoon highs climb back into the mid 90s. We had a nice brek in the temperatures yesterday with a high of only 90 at the Birmingham airport. That lowered high thanks to the abundant showers on Tuesday as well as all of the leftover clouds. Of course, the humidity wasn’t changed much!
For Friday, we see a weakness develop over the eastern half of the country as the upper ridge nudges westward a bit. This opens the door for increased shower chances as well as coverage. Unfortunately due to the nature of convective weather, not everyone will get rain. That that do could see some rapid downpours with an inch of rain possible in 30 to 45 minutes. Marginally severe storms are also possible with damaging wind the most likely problem.
The troughiness does not stick around long, unfortunately. It moves out on Saturday which brings the ridge back into our area. This should once again return us to daily isolated showers with highs back into the middle and upper 90s for the weekend and much of next week.
Tropics still relatively quiet. There is an area of lowered pressure over the Bahamas and Cuba and across extreme South Florida, but NHC is not expecting any development with that for the next couple of days.
Watch the video for a peek well into the future that could mean some nicely cooler days. However, we call it voodoo country for a reason. But the look to the GFS out into week 2 is nice with potential for nice rain chances and lowered temperatures – maybe even some lowered humidity! Woohoo!!!
