**No Weather Xtreme video this afternoon due to travel schedule**

RIGHT NOW: Showers continue to increase over the eastern two-thirds of Alabama this afternoon. While we don’t have any severe weather in progress, once again some neighborhoods are getting heavy rain.

Showers today are moving “backwards”… from east to west coming around the circulation of the upper high to the northwest. Temperatures are very comfortable for mid-summer in Alabama; Birmingham was reporting only 82 degrees at 2:00… Gadsden’s temperature was 75, a good 15-17 degrees below average for July 15.

Occasional showers will continue through tonight, with the rain tapering off during the late night hours.

OUR WEEKEND: The weather remains generally unsettled tomorrow with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms… while the best chance of rain will come during the afternoon and evening hours, a morning shower can’t be ruled out. The weather will remain relatively cool for July with a high in the mid to upper 80s thanks to the clouds and showers.

Showers and storms will begin to thin out Sunday as the upper ridge begins to strengthen and temperatures reach the low 90s.

NEXT WEEK: The upper ridge will drift to the southeast next week, and with rising heights heat levels will rise and showers and storms will become fewer in number. Highs will be generally in the mid 90s.

AT THE BEACH: Expect about 3-5 hours of sunshine today and tomorrow with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms. Then, 6-8 hours of sunshine a day can be expected Sunday and Monday with showers and storms becoming more isolated. Sea water temperatures remain in the mid to upper 80s.

TROPICAL UPDATE: The Atlantic basin remains quiet and tropical storm formation is not expected through the weekend.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
