There was a period of light snow across the Birmingham area within the last hour or so mixed with sleet, at times. We are now getting a lull, although some snow is starting again, however the storm is not over. A band of heavier snow in Central Mississippi is spreading toward the east and NE. Some of that change over to snow is probably already occurring over parts of Sumter, Greene and Pickens Counties.

The storm is not over. A new area of snow over Central Mississippi will be spreading NE. Meridian now reporting 34 degrees with snow. The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a Heavy Snow Warning for areas south of I-20, including areas down to Hattiesburg and Natchez.

In Alabama, it looks like the heaviest snow will be across the central part of the state, including the Selma/Montgomery area. It is likely that Montgomery will get twice as much snow as Birmingham.

We still expect 1-2 inch accumulations in the Birmingham area, as the day goes on, with lesser amounts the further north you go.

The police chief and fire chief at Cuba, located SW of Livingston, reported that it was snowing like crazy. Heavy snow was also reported in Livingston.
