The weather across Alabama early on this Tuesday afternoon could best be described as:

Uncomfortable
Wet
Chilly
Drab
Non-Chamber of Commerce type
All of the above

Just before noon, some icing was still occurring on the Highway 35 bridge that crosses Little River Canyon in NE Alabama. Some icing also reported on rural roads atop the mountain in Cherokee County.

In a Special Weather Statement issued early this afternoon, the National Weather Service in Huntsville reported that temperatures had climbed to just above freezing in the higher terrain of NE Alabama. Icing that has already formed could cause some slick spots to remain until about 2 pm.

This was mostly for areas above about 1,500 feet elevation. This included:

Mentone
Ider
Henagar
Parts of Lookout Mountain near Fort Payne

Radar at 1 pm showed scattered rain over North and Central Alabama. Most of it was north of a line from about Fayette, Birmingham and Talladega.
