With the rain from the remnants of Lee still falling across a large portion of Central Alabama, a new rainfall record has been established at the Birmingham Shuttlesworth International Airport. As of 5 pm, observations from the Birmingham airport showed 4.63″ of rain so far today. This breaks the old record of 2.10″ set in 1949. And more will be falling in the gauge over the next couple of hours.

Radar did show a break in the rain coming out of the southwest. In fact, some drier air was being pulled into Central Alabama from Central Mississippi where dew points were in the mid 50s. In the last couple of hours, dew points have fallen 5 to 8 degrees across the southwest sections of Central Alabama.
