Looks like our great weather will continue for the next 5 days or so along with a gradual warming trend. No major heat issues, but it does appear likely that we will once again see highs climb into the 90s. But not the high 90s – just the lower 90s.
The overall upper air pattern will gradually shift over the next couple of days as the closed low currently over the Ohio River Valley opens up and moves off the East Coast. This will assist Maria to recurve into the western Atlantic and stay away from the US and also miss Bermuda.
With the shift of the upper closed low/trough, the overall flow pattern for us goes pretty much zonal at mid-week and stays that way into the latter part of the week. This should keep us pretty dry. With zonal flow, though, I do expect moisture to increase somewhat which opens the way for widely scattered shower possibilities as we hit the end of the week and the weekend.
Tropics are active with three on the board. Katia is pretty much gone located way up in the North Atlantic. Maria is having trouble getting organized, but will probably have some better chances when it gets east of the Bahamas on Tuesday. As I noted, though, Maria is forecast to recurve between Bermuda and the US missing any land mass. Waves along the US East Coast could be significant again, though.
And then there is Nate in the Southwest Gulf. Nate is a tropical storm and expected to stay that way as it moves slowly westward onto the Mexican coast late Sunday evening. It should dissipate fairly rapidly over the rugged terrain there.
Long range forecasts suggest a major cool down for the eastern half of the country around the 21st/22nd time frame. Seems reasonable when you consider the calendar. The big closed low stays with us meaning cool weather for the end of September.
