Scattered Showers And Storms

WARM, MOIST AIR: We will deal with scattered showers and thunderstorms across Alabama today as a cold front approaches from the northwest. We note some pretty strong storms early this morning over the eastern half of the state today; some of the heavier ones at 6:00 a.m. were near U.S. 278 from Gadsden to Piedmont to the Georgia line.

Away from the showers, the sun should peek out at times with a high in the mid 80s.

TOMORROW AND THE WEEKEND: Showers should end during the morning, and the sky becomes partly sunny by afternoon as drier air rolls in. Saturday should feature a good supply of sunshine as we begin the weekend with a low in the 50s followed by a high in the low 80s.

Sunday’s weather will depend on the big upper low north of Alabama, at this point we will keep the forecast dry with a high once again in the low 80s.

NEXT WEEK: Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 00Z GFS bring a lobe in here Monday with some risk of showers. Then, Tuesday and Wednesday look mostly dry with only isolated showers around. Highs will hold mostly in the 80-85 degree range.

OPHELIA: The tropical storm the Atlantic is expected to remain below hurricane strength over the next five days as it makes the big recurve off the East Coast of the U.S. No threat to any land mass, with the possible exception of Bermuda. Again, see the Weather Xtreme video for details.
