Looks like it will be dry and mild for the next several days with our next chance of rain coming late Thursday and Friday. But even then, those chances are pretty slim. And what about that huge snow storm in the Northeast US? I was watching the Rutgers game on ABC 3340 yesterday afternoon, and I was as fascinated by the snow fall as the game itself.
For this morning, widespread frost will clear out by 9 am giving way to a sunny day with the afternoon temperatures climbing into the lower and mid 60s. Just beautiful! And Monday through Wednesday will be quite similar with temperatures slowly warming as we climb to a high around 70 by Wednesday. But a trough coming out of the Rockies on Thursday will drag a front into the Lower Mississippi Valley late Thursday. This opens up the potential for some showers, but I do not expect a lot of rain. The trough moves quickly by on Friday, so there is some chance for showers on Friday. Rainfall amounts are likely to be less than a quarter of an inch.
We come under a strong ridge Friday afternoon which holds tough into Saturday. This ridge should deflect the next big short waves coming out of the Rockies on Saturday shunting it northeastward across the western Great Lakes area. But this means another front coming into our vicinity late in the day Sunday which promises some rain for late Sunday and Monday. However, that does verge into voodoo country so timing may need to be adjusted as we get closer to the event.
Tropics remain relatively quiet with two areas under the watchful eye of the Hurricane Center. It was sure great to see and chat with NHC Director Bill Read at the National Weather Association Conference about 10 days ago. Neither of the areas is likely to develop into anything of significance in the next 48 hours.
The big trend that continues to show up in the long range projections is a warm start to November. A deep trough on the West Coast will pump up the ridge over the eastern US putting the Southeast US under a nice warm southwesterly flow. And even as the pattern changes somewhat by the middle of November, the westerlies remain well to our north suggesting an absence of extremes. But not much rain in this pattern either.
