We are racking up another great Fall weekend for 2011. I cannot count the wonderful string of great weekends we’ve had. It’s just great that they keep on coming! Okay, so this one will have some clouds, but the temperatures should be very nice with highs today in the mid 60s climbing into the lower 70s on Sunday. Clouds will dampen the mood a bit, however, I expect to see some sun peeking through the clouds from time to time. I believe we will be dry, however, as our surface flow comes around to the south on Sunday we will see moisture levels increasing significantly so there will be a small possibility of seeing a shower or patch of light rain.

Monday will be another cloudy day with a somewhat better chance for a shower, however, the shower chances will still be low and most of us remain dry. The big rain chance comes on Tuesday with the approach of a strong cold front along with a fast moving short wave trough in the upper atmosphere. This should be just what the doctor ordered to get the front through Central Alabama. I think the best rain chances come from noon to midnight on Tuesday with rain ending from west to east in the early morning hours of Wednesday. We should see clearing by Wednesday afternoon along with a cool down as temperatures once again drop backward with highs in the 60s.

Thanksgiving and Black Friday should both be dry for us and pleasant. Morning lows around the 40-degree mark with highs around 65 or so. And we should stay dry into the last weekend of November.

Tropics still fairly quiet. NHC watching a very large area of cloudiness the result of an interaction of a tropical wave, a front, and an upper low. Not much has changed with this area over the last 24 hours and little additional change is expected in the next 48 hours.

Now, the long range look – commonly referred to here as voodoo country – shows a big change coming our way. The GFS is suggesting the development of a long wave trough with good amplitude over the eastern half of the country. This means we will be entering December on a cold note. And the GFS suggests little change in the pattern as we head into the first week or so of December.

Congratulations to UAB for the upset over Southern Miss. In other games, Alabama is hosting Georgia Southern at 1:00 pm at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The sky will be partly to mostly cloudy with a kickoff temperature near 61 degrees, staying in the 60s through the fourth quarter. Auburn hosts Samford at Jordan-Hare Stadium with a 12 noon kickoff; the weather will be mostly cloudy and temperatures hovering in the low to mid 60s for the entire game. And I’ll be watching the Florida State game this evening as they take on Virginia. Looks like some clouds with temperatures falling through the 60s there.

Hard to believe that Thanksgiving is just around the corner. But it is! I’m looking forward to a visit from my daughter who lives in Chicago. Been cold up there, so she’ll probably have trouble with the warmth down here. Godspeed and have a wonderful day.
