* 1 (only 1) is how many Storm Alert programs are left for this season. It is tomorrow night (Tuesday night this week instead of Thursday night) at Bethel Baptist Church in Moody/St. Clair County. The doors open at 5:00, so be there early to get a good seat. The actual program begins at 7:00 and should be over by 8:15.

* 100 is how many pounds James Madison weighed. He was our 4th U.S. president. That means he was lighter than Jason Simpson. He was also our shortest president in history at only 5 feet 4 inches. So, he was also shorter than Jason Simpson. I stole this fact from the magazine section of the Moundville Times.

* 36 is how many inches of new snow fell on Mammoth Lakes, California in the last 24 hours. That is in the Sierra-Nevada Mountains.

* 131 mph is how high the wind gusts reached near the Sierra-Nevada crest close to Mammoth Lakes. Can you imagine getting caught in that?

* 88 inches is how much snow has fallen this season at Flagstaff in Northern Arizona. That is 18 inches more than normal. That is almost double what they had last year at this time. 36 of that 88 inches has fallen in the last 24 days. Flagstaff is in the high country of Northern Arizona with the tallest mountain in the state in the vicinity. You would not believe the change in topography as you travel toward Flagstaff from the east or west.

* 122 inches was the snow depth at Alta, Utah this morning, including an additional foot in the last 24 hours. At Silver Lake/Brighton, 16 more inches fell in the last 24 hours bringing their total to 128 inches.

* 8.32 inches is how much rain has fallen at Guam International Airport so far this year and that is 1.57 inches wetter than normal. You would think being located out in the vast Pacific Ocean that it would be a lot more. However, being near storm tracks and the topography plays a big effect.

* 0.38 is the excess rain at Anniston Airport so far this year thanks to recent big rain amounts. It has been so long, that we hardly know how to spell “surplus.” The total for Anniston so far stands at 9.79.

* 1,500 feet is the average elevation of the state of West Virginia. That makes it the highest altitude state (based on average elevation) east of the Mississippi. Nowhere near the highest, however, when it comes to peak elevations. The highest point in West Virginia is Spruce Knob in the east part of the state at an elevation of 4,863 feet. West Viginia is also the only state with two panhandles. Their largest city is Charleston (with a population of only 51,702). It is also the state capitol.
