This has been almost the perfect snow event in Alabama! (Unless you’re in school and want a day off.) It’s a Saturday morning, so people generally don’t have to drive anywhere, the snow is still falling in many areas after sunrise, it looks beautiful outside, and yet amounts are light (mainly less than 1″), with no power outages that I’ve heard of.
It is very cold outside, so if you had any baseball games planned, a tee time, some fishing, or whatever outdoors for any long period of time, you probably want to cancel. In BHM, it is 30 degrees, with wind chills across central Alabama around 20. When the wind gusts, it gets down near 10 degrees at times.
With temperatures below freezing, there are some icy bridges and overpasses, and even some other roads may have a few slick spots. James and Jason have seen two accidents happen on TV on the ALDOT camera at the Oxmoor Road exit on I-65. I have heard that some interstates downtown are closed. If you don’t have to go anywhere, don’t drive this morning. If you do, be extra careful, go slowly, and leave room between you and the car in front of you. Also, decks and porches may be frozen, so walk carefully outside.
I have attached a radar loop from just before 11 pm last night through about 6 am this morning. The snow really developed quickly around 2 am.
