Our summer-like weather pattern will be sticking with us for the weekend and into the first part of next week. In fact, there are no really significant rain events in the foreseeable future. The troughiness over the Southeast US coast will be there through Monday when it begins to lift out to the northeast ahead of a fairly strong short wave moving through the Mississippi River Valley. So until Monday, we stay in a warm pattern with the possibility of daily afternoon and early evening showers and thunderstorms. A few spots got a good soaking yesterday due to the slow moving nature of the isolated storms we say develop.
The isolated storm scenario stays with us through Monday, but then Tuesday a weak cold front will be moving through the area so we see our best chances for rain. Understand that while Tuesday is probably the best shot we have at some rain, not everyone will see rain due to the showery nature of the event. The passage of the trough means that we are likely to dry out come Wednesday and through the end of the coming week as the upper ridge becomes established over the eastern third of the country.
The western US will remain under a trough so the active weather remains well to our north and west for the end of the week. The upper ridge builds in strongly by next Saturday, so I do expect to see our high temperatures push the 90-degree mark pretty hard.
Rainfall for the next five days remains spotty at best. If you get under one of the isolated showers over the next couple of days you could see a good half inch of rain, perhaps even more due to the slow movement of the storms.
Some activity in the Eastern Pacific as we near the start to the 2012 hurricane season. Aletta is meandering in the eastern Pacific while another area of disturbed weather is being watched for development closer to the Mexican coast.
The GFS does not provide much hope for rain for us. The pattern as we look out into voodoo country remains essentially unchanged with the trough in the west and the ridge along the East Coast.

I really had a great time last night emceeing the Relay for Life event at Pelham High School. It is immensely heartwarming to see so many people coming together for an evening of fun and work as they raised money to fight cancer and find a cure. I was surprised to find that I also was judging the cupcake wars! Good stuff and hard to choose a winner for the categories of best presentation and best taste. Special thanks to my friend Bob Van Loan for inviting me to serve as the emcee for the event, my second one! Enjoy the day and Godspeed.
