Looking back over the climate records for Central Alabama, here are the record highs for today, May 27th:
Birmingham 98 set in 1962
Montgomery 99 set in 1916
Tuscaloosa 97 set in 1964
Anniston 93 set in 1996, 1962, and 1958
Most localities will see highs in the mid 90s, so most of the records are likely to stay intact. Anniston could see a new record today, as it saw yesterday with the high of 95. For Anniston, the question will be whether or not clouds from Beryl will reach the area or whether the increased mixing from a slightly higher wind field will keep the temperature down a bit. Based on the latest satellite view, I’m expecting the high for Anniston to be above the old record.
On a side note, it is interesting that the NOAA hurricane season forecast along with the outlook from Colorado State indicate that the 2012 hurricane season will be about average. Yet, with the official start to the hurricane season still five days away (counting today), we’re already on our second named storm!
