The latest edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme Video is available in the player below and on iTunes.

Looks like the dry weather has returned to Central Alabama even though the overall weather pattern across the US stays active. A cold front will move through Central Alabama during the mid-day time frame today, but the biggest effect that most people will notice will be a wind shift and gustiness. Temperatures should climb nicely with highs around 70 or so. As the front passes, though, you’ll see/feel a shift of the wind to the northwest and the wind will pick up in speed and gustiness.

By Easter morning, it will be considerably cooler. You’ll definitely need a jacket if you plan to attend sunrise services Easter morning. Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 30s tomorrow morning. I do not expect much frost since the wind should hold up through sunrise limiting the amount of frost.

Our coldest morning will probably be Monday morning with widespread frost and the possibility of freezing temperatures in many locations. Our low forecast for Monday morning is 35 degrees, but Central Alabama is not a one number place. If you have tender plants that need protection, you should take those precautions for Monday morning.

Tuesday morning will be very close on the heels of Monday morning. Return flow begins as the high slides east of Alabama but frost and some freezing readings are still possible on Tuesday morning. After that the warmup begins with highs climbing into the 70s for the rest of the week.

The active flow is a bit further north Wednesday, but an upper trough across the Great Lakes could bring some clouds to the Southeast. I think we’ll be dry though a patch of light rain or an isolated shower might be possible.

The rest of the week should be dry with a zonal flow pattern across the southern tier of the US. Another surface low moving across the US-Canadian border is forecast to drag a cold front into the Southeast on Saturday, but with that kind of zonal flow there may not be enough push for it to make it closer than Kentucky or Tennessee. But that is probably the next chance for any significant rain.

Voodoo land is still active but not across the southern US. April 4th seems to be the next system with any serious rain chances and that system does not look particularly robust at this time.

Thanks for checking in with us today. I’ll be filling in for Ashley Brand this weekend, plus I’ll be in Pell City at the Jeff State Pell City Campus for a spotter talk on Monday at 6:30 pm. If you have an interest in severe weather I hope you can join us. Have a great weekend and God bless.
