It was pouring rain over parts of North and Central Alabama lste tonight but the threat of any severe weather has greatly lessened.
Mostly a rain event now.
Down in Extreme SW Alabama, a Tornado Watch continues until midnight. Have not seen a report of a confirmed touchdown but there were several warnings earlier.
Lots of warnings, both tornado and severe thunderstorm in Mississippi late this afternoon and earlier tonight and a number of damage reports. However, the storms weakened as they crossed the Alabama border but the rain continued.
Bringing us up to date at 10 o’clock tonight:
Moderate to heavy rain in progress in a rather broad zone from the Huntsville-Decatur area in the Tennessee Valley south and SW across the Cullman-Birmingham-Tuscaloosa areas into SW Alabama.
Everything moving east.
The Birmingham area will get moderate to heavy rain for a few more hours. Skywatchers report these amounts so far:
1.25 at Coker in West Tuscaloosa County and heavy rain continues.
1.71 at Hamilton in Marion County
Heavy rain also reported at Bear Creek.
Lightning activity has greatly diminished.
We will continue to watch and wait…
