Weather much improved from last night. The capping inversion was strong enough yesterday to keep our weather perfectly dry for all the various events going on outside. But it was the kind of day that makes you pull your hair looking at all the various elements that seem to show a powder keg environment that should blow just about any time. The capping inversion evident on the special 18Z soundings yesterday from Shelby County Airport and Jackson was just strong enough to give us a great day. But last night and early this morning the story was much different.
Today should be breezy and cooler plus drier with a good west to northwest wind bringing less volatile air into Alabama. That air will stick around through Tuesday with a gradual warming trend with 80-degree highs on the table for Tuesday.
Wednesday and Thursday will see another round of weather across Central Alabama – probably late Wednesday and into Thursday. SPC has an area outlooked for Thursday which includes Alabama. Timing will be the issue since that is a good four days out.
The week ends with a southwesterly flow aloft. That could keep Central and South Alabama a bit wettish with a stalled frontal boundary plus the moisture pumping into the area from the southwest. But that scenario is expected to modify by next weekend to bring good weather back into the forecast.
Voodoo country shows another system around the 23rd or so and that seems pretty reasonable as we continue a rather progressive weather pattern with systems every four to five days or so.
Thanks to all the folks at the Buck Creek Festival and all the people who came out and said hello. ABC 3340 is proud to be the media sponsor of Helena’s Buck Creek Festival, something we’ve done now for five years. I hope you have a great Sunday – Mother’s Day Sunday. James Spann will be back with the next edition of the Weather Xtreme Video bright and early tomorrow morning. God bless.

PS In case you don’t know, I got back from storm reporting around 4 am, so I stayed in the bed a trifle longer than usual this morning.
