Rain was extensive across much of Alabama at 9:45 this morning.

Not a great deal of rain, yet, over East Alabama, however.

Scroll down and you will see the counties listed that are included in a Tornado Watch until 3:00 this afternoon. In Alabama, it is the extreme south counties.

Heavy rain was in progress over parts of West Alabama. For example:
1.53 inches at Coker in West Tuscaloosa County and still raining heavily
0.80 Marion (Perry County) and 0.20 fell in only 15 minutes

To our west, over in Mississippi, NWS/Jackson issued a Flash Flood Warning for a number of counties. They estimate 2 to 3 inches of rain has fallen since 6:00 this morning and more thunderstorms should dump as much as 2 to 3 inches of additional rain. This warning includes areas as close to the Alabama border as Meridian.

Rain will continue to spread east across Alabama and we could see some flash flood warnings later today, although the heavier rain may be over the south half of the state. Even though the entire state is under a Slight Risk of severe weather by the Storm Prediction Center, we think the better chance of that occurring will be over the south half, but we cannot rule it out for North Alabama.

Most of this rain will be out of the north half of the state by early tomorrow morning.
