The latest edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme Video is available in the player below and on iTunes.

Looks like that weak surface front has finally sagged into South Alabama this morning where it should be the focus for showers today as it washes out. That combined with the strengthening ridge aloft should bring Central Alabama a couple of pretty quiet and dry days. Today we could still see an isolated storm or two, but I believe most of us will be dry.

Saturday the ridge breaks down a little in response to a strong short wave moving across Central Canada and the Great Lakes Region. Another weak cold front will be dragged southward affecting our weather on Sunday and Monday. This should again produce conditions favorable for those mainly afternoon and evening storms with a bit more focus in the area where the front is located.

We’ve been watching the GFS project in a variety of ways something tropical. Well, the National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Tropical Depression One-E in the Pacific. The forecast track of that disturbance is into Central America and possibly into the western Caribbean. The GFS picks up on that next Tuesday and provides a solution that would bring the weak storm northward across the eastern Gulf. This is a solution similar to several over the last week or so. We’re still on the edge of voodoo country, but this is showing some potential for coming into being. Needless to say, we’ll be watching.

Besides the future track of that tropical system, there is not a lot to talk about in the longer range as summertime ridge seems to be the dominating feature.

Looking forward to participating in Music On Main in Columbiana tomorrow evening. Jason Simpson will be broadcasting the weather today from there, too. I should have the next Weather Xtreme Video posted here around 7 to 7:30 tomorrow morning. Just a reminder that we’re on a one-a-day schedule this week with James Spann off on vacation.

Have a great Thursday and God bless.
