Today is their wedding anniversary!
BUT!!!!
It is also the _____th (choose one) birthday for James!
I am highly suspicious that he planned it that way so he would NEVER forget his wedding anniversary. Clearly a built-in reminder.
I don’t know how old James is. However, on his 40th birthday we all gathered at one of their friend’s home and David Black and I did a funny skit to celebrate the occasion. We predicted that by the time James reached the semi-ripe old age of 50, he would have eaten so much BBQ that he would be so big that he would hide every state east of the Mississippi when doing TV weather.
That prediction did not verify.
David stuffed a large pillow in his shirt to represent what James would look like and we made a huge cardboard TV weather map.
Since I am in the prediction business, I hereby predict that James will still be going strong at 80 with his two strands of hair (and maybe two teeth) By that time he will have consumed thousands of pounds of BBQ and it will cost much, much money to manufacture a bobble-head doll of him.
He already knows where every BBQ joint is in the state of Alabama and he knows where every pot-hole is within a 50 mile radius of Birmingham.
I think he has those numbered.
I first met James when he walked into the NWS Forecast Office at 11 West Oxmoor Road back in the 1970s. He had 20,000 strands of hair. I was sure he was a high school kid until we were introduced.
At that time, he had just signed on as the Channel 13 weather guy. He used to hang out with us at the NWS between the 6 and 10 o’clock news. When I was on the evening shift, he would call before coming and ask if we needed anything. We would always reply, “go through the Hardee’s drive through and bring all of page four”
