The NWS has issued a Significant Weather Alert for both Shelby and Jefferson County until 5:15.
A strong thunderstorm was near Chelsea moving NW at 15. It could produce 1/2-inch hailstones and winds up to 40. It should also affect Siluria, Oak Mountain State Park, Pelham, Indian Springs Village and Riverchase.
For Jefferson County, the strong storm was near Bluff Park in the Hoover area moving NW at 14. It, too, can produce 1/2-inch diameter hail and winds up to 40.
Besides the Bluff Park/Hoover areas, this one may also affect Shannon, the UAB campus, Lipscomb, Midfield, Fairfield and Dolomite.
