It has been a very unusual July for weather across much of Alabama. This last Saturday of July the unusual weather continues. Clouds, rain, a few pockets of sunshine and well below normal temperatures are making July seem more like late May.
Most of Alabama is seeing mostly cloudy skies this afternoon with a threat for showers and isolated storms. We are seeing a few breaks in the cloud cover, especially over western portions of Alabama. Where the clouds are hanging around, temperatures are struggling to reach the 80s. Locations seeing more sun have made it into the mid 80s. Locations from Mobile to Montgomery to Atlanta are seeing thicker clouds and with those clouds rain is falling. Nothing too intense, mostly light to moderate rain.
There is still a chance for additional showers and thunderstorms to develop this afternoon. We will be watching areas that are receiving more sun as instability could increase, which could allow for convection to develop.
Farther off to the northwest, near the Memphis area, skies are mostly sunny. A frontal boundary has passed that area with drier air. That front and air mass will be heading our way this afternoon and will pass through overnight. Heading into tomorrow, skies will be clearing and we can expected most sunny skies tomorrow afternoon.
