There has been a considerable increase in moisture across Central and South Alabama today and thunderstorms were increasing, especially over the SE counties this afternoon.

So much so that the NWS has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Central Barbour County until 2:45. The thunderstorm, which may have nickel-size hail and wind gusts over 60, is located near Clayton and moving north at 9 mph. It should be near the Barbour County public lake by 2:45. Very dangerous lighnting is also reported with this storm. As a coincidence, this is Lightning Awareness Week in Alabama.

Other storms were scattered from Montgomery County southeastward toward Troy. Some of those were dumping heavy rain. Still others were over Wilcox County in South/Central Alabama. Further north, scattered showers and a few thunderstorms were over West Jefferson, west and NW of Birmingham. The storms were moving generally northward at about 10 mph.
